Learning to learn. (Art progression)

Posted by HadenDA - February 1st, 2021

I’ve never been to art school or taken any real class for it outside of ones from elementary and middle school. Dropped out of high school years ago and not making much money so attending a series of sessions for improving my ability to draw ain’t exactly in the cards. I’m self taught and you can really see how my art style suffers from it. Typically, if I’m crazily unsure if something looks right on a drawing, I’ll ask for advise or a critique from the sister or brother-in-law - as they are both professional artists. Sometimes I’ll watch videos to help improve how I approach drawing. These designs have been shitty, going on crappy, and have finally reached “I’m personally okay with it.” I’d like to say things will only get better but I can’t know that for sure. I’m determined to be better but that’s not necessarily a hard wired solution. Whatever. The point is I don’t post art with the mentality that i think it looks good. I simply like to share my ideas and my progress.

Well I think your art looks great! I am currently teaching my self how to draw and watching videos on how to improve my skills. But I hope you eventually learn more and improve overtime so you can become what you aspire to be. I hope this year goes well for you!

Best of wishes,

- Ant :D

I think you're doing a fantastic job, I faced a lot of the same things, I'm definitely not as good but I can say that I have definitely improved a lot over the course of 2020, the thing is the more I pushed myself to get better the less I enjoyed it, if getting better means trashing everything you make you can technically improve but it's not worth the self doubt and general unhappiness it can bring, I honestly enjoyed drawing a lot more when I was just doing it fast and dirty and had fun with it, so I say just do what makes you happy

Going from top right to bottom right: these are really getting better and better. Props on being self-taught too, all the more impressive when you master the craft then!

All of these look great maybe. Forms maybe a little wonky with the top two to the right, but otherwise I'm not seeing any errs.

Good stuff, and good luck with the ambition!

*great. Maybe forms... lmao, years of writing and I still do stuff like that. :P Such are the arts. Never perfect. But the more you do maybe the better you get. Never slow down, get fetters and rep, each set till your set, till you shine with a passion, valiance and depth.
