This here is the latest blah blah improved character sheet. I normally replace the file but I'll leave the OLD version up so you can bask in how shit it is. I won't clarify what I did in great detail. Just new hair, new face, better "heads" and with a side of shoulders.

I replaced the file for the Travis sheet. Click here to see it. As for the original, I've included it with this post in case you want to curse your eyes. The sheet below is unbearably flat, the expressions are unimaginative, and far too limited in quantity to justify the sheet's existence. The whole thing needed a serious make-over. I'm much happier with the new one. Especially considering how the hair looks. No longer is it a collection of boring spikes and a blinding shade of red.

I've been tossing out sheet after sheet of my characters and only recently did I make an actual illustration with one of them (Fountain). Well, I sure as hell don't want to stop there. I can't attend classes to better my art so I just have to keep drawing and experimenting. My most recent experiment being Getting Taught. Played with some colors. Well, 2 of them. Of course, I'll be making more sheets but I also plan and throwing my OCs into actual drawings that provoke thought. I mean... the sheets kinda do that, but not enough. A character design is one thing. Encircling said design in an environment is a bit more nuanced. I'm just saying obvious crap now. Oops. Regardless, I'mma keep on it, I guess. I don't entirely know where I was going with this post. Thanks for taking your time to read it.

It's not unusual for me to swap out the files for my art submissions. Whenever I'm unsatisfied with how a character (or something else) looks I adjust/redraw some stuff and then pull a switcheroo. So the original version, while not completely gone, isn't present on Newgrounds anymore. But lately, I figure why not show a comparison in a post so people on here can see the difference? After all, I don't exactly announce when I've changed a file. I normally assume people who've favorited my art and regularly check their favorites list do a double-take on thumbnails of mine or just not notice it all. This is probably the more interesting way of going about this. I've included my thoughts and reasons for the change below the comparison.

MUCH happier with the new version. Originally, I was just gonna redesign that scary weird thing behind her. The buff look just wasn't working for me (and I was lazy hence its lack of legs) but I decided to change up the woman's clothes and I'm glad I did. Again, the first time I was lazy. I just gave her huge jeans because I was afraid I would mess up drawing her legs accurately to her size. Corrected that cuz I ain't no wuss, ya hear? Something about the tighter jeans and the button-down gives her a more real feel. Like she's someone you could meet on the street or something. Her previous look didn't quite live up to that vibe. Or at least that's how I feel about it.

Also, that creepy thing behind her, I got the anorexic body idea after being introduced to the art of Zdzisław Beksiński.

Straight to the point: I really don’t like how an artist can rate his/her post. I keep accidentally rating my own drawings and I can’t take the rating away so I feel compelled to give it the worse rating possible so I don’t feel like I’m pathetically giving myself points. Can this please be rectified? I’d prefer If the option was just not there for our own art and such.

I’ve never been to art school or taken any real class for it outside of ones from elementary and middle school. Dropped out of high school years ago and not making much money so attending a series of sessions for improving my ability to draw ain’t exactly in the cards. I’m self taught and you can really see how my art style suffers from it. Typically, if I’m crazily unsure if something looks right on a drawing, I’ll ask for advise or a critique from the sister or brother-in-law - as they are both professional artists. Sometimes I’ll watch videos to help improve how I approach drawing. These designs have been shitty, going on crappy, and have finally reached “I’m personally okay with it.” I’d like to say things will only get better but I can’t know that for sure. I’m determined to be better but that’s not necessarily a hard wired solution. Whatever. The point is I don’t post art with the mentality that i think it looks good. I simply like to share my ideas and my progress.
